In the October 24th editorial - the NST came out strongly against the continual abuse of RELA’s power by its members. It then called for more accountability and discipline within this voluntary organisation and also demanded for a “more transparent accounting of their indiscretions and transgressions”. The Home Affairs Minster chimed in by declaring, “if any RELA member oversteps his power, I’ll will take care of it”. The Warong kopi believes he will.
On the 12th October in Langkawi - Kedah, Six Malaysian Talibans stormed a condominium where a foreign married couple was staying. Even though these Islamists would have noticed that the foreigners were non-Muslims and thus not subjected to Islamic laws they push forward in their demand to see their marriage certificate and passports.
16 days have since passed by. The government of the day and its newspapers have remained muted in its condemnation over this unlawful raid on our guest. These Muslim radicals have shown their power and the most powerful politician in the state, the Mentri Besar together with his religious sidekick the chairmen of the State Religious and Humanity Development sidestepped the issue by declaring themselves to be clueless.
Even as this “religious fog of fear” descends on both moderate Muslims and non-Muslims the UMNO run government must show it’s moral leadership and authority by publicly denouncing and acting against these Islamists when they overstep their ambition. It is time for the government of the day to declare, “We will take care of it”.

Couple in khalwat raid may drop second home plan

On Oct 12, Barnhart, 62, and his wife Carole, 61, were in their rented condominium in Kuah when enforcement officers continuously knocked on their door at 2am, accusing them of committing khalwat (close proximity).
He said the officers demanded to see his marriage certificate, although he had told them that they were Christians and should not be subjected to Islamic law.
Banhart said the officers were rude and insisted on “seeing the woman” when he opened the door....
State Religious and Humanity Development Committee chairman Professor Datuk Wira Dr Othman Ishak said “I was not aware of this case. I will ask the Religious Department head. We will get feedback from the vice-prevention squad in Langkawi before making comments,”
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said he would check with the state Religious Department to find out what really happened.“I was not informed about this case. I will find out what really happened before making any comment,” he said.

Rela members who abuse power warned.

Action will be taken against Rela members who abuse the power given to them to help arrest illegals, said Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad.
“If there are real complaints, I’ll make sure the Rela members responsible pay for it,” he warned.
Radzi was commenting on a recent protest by residents in Cheras that some Rela members had misused their power when making arrests.
Asked if they could enter without a search warrant, Radzi said: “They have the power to do it. They are empowered by the law.
“But if any Rela member oversteps his power, I’ll take care.”

IN defending the actions of Rela members who broke down doors during an early morning raid on illegal immigrants in Cheras, the People’s Volunteer Corps spokesman contended that entry was forced only when "knocks on the doors went unanswered or the occupants refused to open them", and asserted their right to enter and search premises without a warrant.
Judging by the litany of complaints in the media and those filed by non-governmental organisations about the strong-arm tactics used against citizens, immigrants and refugees alike, there seems scant respect for human rights in the volunteer corps.
While internal complaints mechanisms and in-house inquiries are useful, they are not always effective because the probes are not as thorough or as impartial as they should be. It would be difficult to make Rela more accountable and disciplined without a more transparent accounting of their indiscretions and transgressions.

N46 Selangor UMNO state assemblyman Zakaria Mat Deros is a forgetful man. Since 1994, Zacky has forgotten to pay his annual assessment of RM195 for his property in Pandamaran. He has forgotten to submit his building plans for “Istana Zakaria” in Kampung Idaman. He was so sick that he must have even forgotten his oath of allegiance to the Sultan of Selangor when he evaded his royal summons 5 times. In all probability he has forgotten that he needs the voters of Port Klang and not the other way around.
The Warong kopi hopes that UMNO will be kind to this forgetful man who happens to be hospitalised due to the stress of the day. Give him some breathing space - a lot of permanent breathing space. Just say adieu to him and tomorrow is not too soon.

Selangor Sultan summons Zakaria over reports.

Port Klang Assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Mat Deros, who has been rebuked by the Prime Minister for building a palatial mansion without a planning approval, can be expected to get a royal scolding soon.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has summoned Zakaria, who is Port Klang Umno division chief and a Klang municipal councillor, to the Mestika palace here.
Zakaria was earlier scheduled to meet the sultan today but was said to have taken ill....
It is understood that one of the sultan’s officials had attempted to reach Zakaria five times through the politician’s aide to hand over the order.
“Eventually, the order had to be sent to Zakaria personally by the Klang OCPD,” sources said.

The president of MIC is a happy man. He has given top marks for himself on his leadership ability by announcing that Malaysian Indians are on track in “transforming themselves into a self-reliant, dignified and progressive community”.
Consider what “Muthu public” recognises as common knowledge and what the MIC youth chief has to say “We (Indians) are lagging in everything – from employment to education and economic benefits” and he continued to mention that the Indians are 10 years behind the Chinese and Malays.
When will politicians (and in this case the MIC) redeem back their moral integrity by acknowledging to the public the often-painful truth about the actual state of the country?

MIC well ahead in plan to transform Indians

The MIC is on its way towards achieving its vision to transform Malaysian Indians into a self-reliant, dignified and progressive community in a modern and developed nation, its president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.
This, he said, was being done by organising, motivating and mobilising the community through grassroots projects and programmes.
“Through our party’s social machinery, we have undertaken numerous programmes and projects to raise the standard of living of the Indian community,” he said in his message to wish Malaysians of Hindu faith a Happy Deepavali.

One-third of Johor crimes committed by Indians.

Indians are responsible for about 30% of the crimes committed in Johor.
They are mainly involved in wayside robberies, motorcycle thefts and hijacking of lorries, said state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail. Meanwhile, MIC Youth chief S.A. Vigneswaran said the movement was concerned about the increasing number of Indians getting involved in crime.
“We are lagging in everything – from employment to education and economic benefits.
“The situation is so bad that, sometimes, people are worried when they see us and do not want to hire Indians,” he said in his speech at the function.
The youths had to “wake up” as the progress of the Indian community was already about 10 years behind the Chinese and the Malays, added Vigneswaran, who is also Youth and Sports Parliamentary Secretary. Source

The author must voluntarily tender his resignation for not only causing “hurt and confusion to non-Muslims” but also for bringing shame to moderate Malaysian Muslims.
Unfortunately in the real world, Islamists do not resign, nor do they die or fade away but they find increasing strength in their numbers.

Takaful apologises over e-mail.

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd, which is part of the Bank Islam group, has apologised for any confusion that has arisen from the misinterpretation of its recent e-mail.
An internal mail was sent to its staff by the insurance company’s management, prohibiting Muslim employees from extending Deepavali greetings to Hindus.
The e-mail was sent on Oct 3 by Mohd Fauzi Mustaffa of Takaful Malaysia’s syariah department.
A spokesman for Takaful Malaysia reiterated that Mohd Fauzi’s e-mail was meant for “internal circulation and as an advice or an opinion for our staff only. Source

Lim free to resign based on principle, says Mirzan.

Asli’s head of Centre for Public Policy Studies Dr Lim Teck Ghee has resigned over the controversial studies on the 45% bumiputra equity ownership in Malaysian companies
“We did an evaluation of the specific report and found it wanting. If its assumptions and calculations are faulty, we felt that the conclusions arrived at may also be faulty. As such, we feel that the report does not fairly reflect the true picture of bumiputra equity ownership in Malaysia,” said Mizran Mahathir.
He also expressed deep regret over the “hurt and confusion felt by all Malaysians” caused by the report.
And since Dr Lim had a different view to Asli’s and he felt strongly about it, he was free to resign from his position based on principle.
Asli’s head of Centre for Public Policy Studies Dr Lim Teck Ghee has resigned over the controversial studies on bumiputra equity ownership in Malaysian companies.
Dr Lim, a prominent political scientist, was also the former UN regional adviser and senior social specialist with the Environment and Social Development Sector Unit of the World Bank.

Unity panel wants Kuan Yew to say sorry.

A parliamentary panel yesterday called on Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew to retract his statement that Chinese in Malaysia were being systematically marginalised.
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Unity and National Service also wants Lee to apologise to all Malaysians.
Committee chairman Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said the use of the word "systematically" was tantamount to saying that the Malaysian government had a grand design to marginalise the people. Source

MINISTER MENTOR LEE, PLEASE PICK A FIGHT WITH SOMEONE OF YOUR STATURE.

Minister Mentor Lee, you are very wrong to insinuate that our non-bumiputra political leaders are absolutely beholden to the government of the day and that we, non-Malay Malaysians are being marginalised.
We have never felt marginalised despite the unfairness of our education system when all it takes to secure a place in any public institution of higher learning or to obtain a government scholarship is ethnicity first and only then scholastic ability. We do not think that we are being marginalised even when our government closes Chinese and Indian schools and that no Chinese primary schools have been planned under the 9th Malaysia Plan whilst more national type and Islamic religious schools are being built.
And it is all right with us when building approvals for temples and churches take donkey years to be processed - only to be rejected.
Mr MM Lee, we have absolute faith in our own ethnic leaders when they tell us that we are still okay even when public listed companies are forced to comply with the minimum 30% bumiputra shareholding and that there is no necessity to request for reciprocation when a company is 100% bumiputra owned.
Incidentally, your comments about how our UMNO run government prefers its Chinese political representatives to be compliant is simply ridiculous. Have you not seen yesterday’s newspaper? Two senior leaders from two different political parties have stood their ground and have castigated you for upsetting their political boss. We believe that our non-bumiputra political leaders are far more upset over your observation of their “social-economic fruits” just by being political eunuchs.
So Minister Mentor Sir, surely you can find some one of your own stature to pick a fight with and ----- though it will be an intellectually uphill battle even for you, do find something pleasant to say about our non-Malay leaders ------- please?

Kuan Yew's comments misleading, says Najib.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday ticked off Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew for saying that Malaysian Chinese were being marginalised systemically.
Lee told a forum in Singapore last Friday that it was vital for Singapore to stand up to its bigger neighbours, Indonesia and Malaysia.
"Our neighbours both have problems with their Chinese. They are successful. They are hardworking and, therefore, they are systematically marginalised."
Indonesia and Malaysia "want Singapore, to put it simply, to be like their Chinese — compliant", Lee said.

SOME DREAMS ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL TO COME TRUE.

Let us be very clear about this. Incompetent builders of hospitals who do not complete and handover the buildings on time are Murderers. Their inability to deliver on the expected date would mean one thing - that lives were lost when it could have been saved if the projects had been completed on time.
The Minister of Health has rightly commented that those contractors who were involved in the delays should not be given future hospital projects. But why is this ban confined to only hospitals? Are schools, police or army quarters and other government buildings any less important?
Since transparency is the watchword for the UMNO run government, the Warong kopi would hazard to dream that the names of these undeserving but well-connected companies and their directors be published, documented and officially banned from all future government projects.

Inept builders caused delays 22 hospitals delivered late, says Chua

Incompetent building contractors have been blamed for delays in the completion of 22 government hospitals under the 8th Malaysia Plan.
Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said these hospitals were completed between a month and three years behind schedule.
Dr Chua said that to ensure delays would not recur, future hospital projects would only be offered to qualified contractors through tenders. Source

A TRADER said she was alarmed when she saw a (25 year old) guard fiddling with his pump-gun in Tesco Shah Alam yesterday just before it went off and wounded two men.When Rashida Abdul Rahman regained her composure, she saw two Vietnamese men grimacing in pain and holding their bloodied legs near her Streamyx stall.
It is learnt that the security guard had accidentally pulled the trigger while examining his weapon.

IT MUST ALWAYS BE QUALITY FIRST THEN QUANTITY UNFORTUNATELY IN THE ........

What does the Malaysian government do when the police force is found wanting in their performance? They will spend RM260 million within the next 4 months, buy 2,000 patrol cars and employ 3,000 new police constables. Simply put, it is all about the shortage of manpower.
The United Nation’s golden standard ratio for policeman to population is 1-500 and Malaysia has a ratio of 1-266, which is - one policeman to every 266 citizens. (Japan has a ratio of 1-563, New Zealand 1-416 and the US 1-434).
So with our better than the UN recommended ratio, why does the government continue to recruit more policemen into the already burgeoning force? This certainly does not reflect well on our police force discipline, professionalism and industriousness. Is the government insinuating that the police force is ineffectively and incompetently managed? If it is true, then heads should roll. Adding more and more manpower will not bring the crime rate down. Optimising efficiency will. It must always be quality first and then quantity, unfortunately in the UMNO run public sector it is often not always so.

More cars, cops to keep criminals at bay

Over RM260 million will be spent in the next four months to ensure police presence in crime-prone areas nationwide.
The money will be used to buy 2,000 patrol cars and to train 3,000 new police constables. The policemen will come as a "package" with the cars by early next year. Source

THE ELECTED AUTHORITIES MUST END THEIR SILENT UNDERSTANDING WITH ......

The proposal by Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin that Muslims and non-Muslims should pray together at the beginning of public functions is a worthwhile idea. However it would be so much more meaningful if the prayers can be conducted quietly by all parties without the usual ostentatious display of “I am closer to God than you are” of which have always been led by an individual from a particular faith.
The Warong kopi is certain that our holy books would have taught us about the importance of quiet humility in our prayers. It may be wishful thinking but maybe just maybe after 49 years of independence, Malaysia’s moderate Muslims will start to take into account the religious sensibilities of non-Muslims even as Islamists creep in to implement their agendas.
The UMNO run government must end their silent understanding with the Islamists of Malaysia and uphold the religious and constitutional rights of all non-Muslims of this country we call – not our second home but our only home.

Muslims and non-Muslims should pray together at the beginning of public functions.
“The person leading the Muslim prayers should ask the non-Muslims to pray according to their respective religions,” said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin.

France brokered the UN resolution 1701 on Lebanon and they chickened out of the peace- keeping force and Syria threatens the UN by saying that the deployment of international troops along the Syria-Lebanon border would be a "hostile" act.

France had offered to lead the proposed 15,000-strong multinational force authorized by a United Nations resolution earlier this month. Then it announced this week that it was sending just 200 troops to join the 200 it already has deployed as part of the current U.N. International Force in Lebanon. Source

· Calls upon all remaining foreign forces to withdraw from Lebanon;
· Calls for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non- Lebanese militias;
· Supports the extension of the control of the Government of Lebanon over all Lebanese territory."

The number of unemployed graduates will be cut by half if they take on the 30,000 jobs now available in the civil service....
The Public Service Department and Public Services Commission would be told to expedite the hiring process as there were an estimated 60,000 graduates in different categories of unemployment, he added.
"If we can speed up recruitment, we can reduce the number of unemployed graduates, and also increase the efficiency of the civil service," Najib said at a Press conference after chairing the first meeting of a special committee formed to address the problem of unemployed graduates.
The committee also agreed on the following:.......
• Shortage of teachers: May be filled with jobless graduates keen on becoming teachers, if the Education Ministry finds it needs to review the teacher-student ratio.

Muslims in Kelantan have been barred from patronising coffeeshops which sell beer or other liquor.
Kota Baru Municipal Council secretary Nazran Muhammad said operators selling liquor must from now stop selling to Muslims or face closure.

Nazran said this after a dialogue when...An operator had complained that although he had a licence to sell liquor, his entire stock of beer was seized from his shop in Jalan Padang Garong.
“They were high handed as it was found that the operator indeed had a licence,” he said.

The Federal Government wants to know exactly how many graduates are unemployed in the country and for this it must first streamline figures from three sources.He was commenting on a recent report that some 70 per cent of graduates from public universities and institutes of higher learning in the country are unemployed.
In fact, there are two categories of graduates applying for jobs - one group register as those who really have no jobs at all and the other group is those who are currently employed but register themselves as unemployed to look for better-paid jobs for career advancement.
However, he admitted that the type of skills possessed by the graduates is also taken into account when it comes to employment. Another reason, he said, is due to the courses taken by the graduates in university.
But looking at the profiles of unemployed graduates, Mustapa said graduates holding degrees in every field like engineering, ICT, business, Islamic Studies, accounting and history, among others, are jobless.

A special forum under the Malay Rulers' Council should be set up to prevent views on Islam from being discussed openly.
Kedah 2006 Ulama Conference director Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said Islamic scholars and experts should sit in the forum.
“We should not let Islam be debated openly by non-experts, which would confuse Muslims,” he told newsmen after the conference yesterday.
Mohd Azmi said the Kedah 2006 Ulama Conference had agreed on 10 pages of resolutions to be distributed to the Malay Rulers' Council, leaders and MPs.
He said that among the resolutions were those on the understanding of apostasy, Islamic liberation, power of the Syariah Court and the conference's rejection for a plan to set up an Inter-Faith Commission.
Mohd Azmi said the resolution also covered issues on international conflicts including Iraq's invasion, Palestine and the turmoil in southern Thailand.

A decade after the Pentagon declared a zero-tolerance policy for racist hate groups, recruiting shortfalls caused by the war in Iraq have allowed "large numbers of neo-Nazis and skinhead extremists" to infiltrate the military, according to a watchdog organization.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks racist and right-wing militia groups, estimated that the numbers could run into the thousands, citing interviews with Defense Department investigators and reports and postings on racist Web sites and magazines.
An article in the National Alliance magazine Resistance urged skinheads to join the Army and insist on being assigned to light infantry units.
"Light infantry is your branch of choice because the coming race war and the ethnic cleansing to follow will be very much an infantryman's war," he wrote. "It will be house-to-house, neighborhood-by-neighborhood until your town or city is cleared and the alien races are driven into the countryside where they can be hunted down and 'cleansed.'
He concluded: "As a professional soldier, my goal is to fill the ranks of the United States Army with skinheads. As street brawlers, you will be useless in the coming race war. As trained infantrymen, you will join the ranks of the Aryan warrior brotherhood.

KELANTAN will offer RM10,000 to each Muslim preacher who marries an orang asli woman and naturally converts her as part of renewed efforts to propagate Islam among the 3,000-odd community in the state.
State Religious Affairs committee chairman Hassan Mahamood (PAS – Tawang) said the same incentive was applicable if the preacher was a Muslim woman who took an orang asli husband.
Asked if the preacher may court the orang asli as a second or third wife, Hassan said it depended on the individual.
Besides the monetary incentive, the preachers would also receive free accommodation, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a fixed monthly allowance of RM1,000.
On criminal activities and social ills among youths, Hassan said these were due to the influence of the western media.
“Crime can only be controlled through the Syariah Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Hamas had given qualified approval for the release of an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Palestinian militants, Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper reported on Friday.

The Perdana Global Peace Organisation yesterday declared war as abhorrent and criminal. Known as the ‘Kuala Lumpur Initiative to Criminalise War’, the declaration said killings in war were as criminal as killings within societies in times of peace and must be subject to the international law on crimes.
It also sought for all national leaders who initiated aggression to be subject to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and that all nations must strengthen the resolve to accept the purposes and principles of the United Nations

Sharia took effect last year in Aceh, a predominantly Muslim region on the northernmost tip of Sumatra island. It banned drinking, gambling, adultery and other behavior deemed immoral under Islam. But it had only applied to Muslims.
The latest bill, submitted to the national parliament for debate, is expected to be adopted by the 550-seat house by the summer after facing initial resistance.....
Although around 97 percent of the population is Muslim, Aceh is also home to Hindus, Buddhists and Christians.

What was the fighting all about? Khartoum's countrywide imposition of Sharia - Islamic law - in 1983 was one of the main factors leading to insurrection in the south by groups including the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA). A divorced couple are fighting each other in a US court over whether their eight-year-old son should be circumcised.
The mother wants it to remedy a recurring and painful inflammation she says the boy has endured during the past year. But the father says the child is healthy and unnecessary circumcision could cause him long-term physical and psychological harm.
In 1999, the American Academy of Pediatrics reversed its support for routine infant circumcision, citing questionable benefits and evidence that circumcised men have less penile sensitivity.
The percentage of male babies circumcised has fallen from an estimated 90 per cent in 1970 to about 60 per cent today.

The Warong Kopi is surprised that the Star paper has found it appropriate to reinforce the common held notion that depression sufferers are violent. That could not be further from the truth. Take a look at any daily news and you will see that ..... the “normal folks” are the real violent ones.
In Malaysia, 10% of the population suffers from depression. As it is no respecter of status, creed or race - almost everybody will know of someone who is suffering or has suffered from depression. Depression is a sickness like the common cold or even cancer. No one in their right mind will ask the sick person to be strong and to snap out it "on demand". Likewise no one should ever condescendingly suggest to a depressed person to "be more strong mentally" and to snap out from it. The causes of depression are many. Some may be due to genetics and some because of chemical inbalances in the brain.
Unfortunately in Malaysia, depression has been in the past and still is – stigmatised with violence, mental weakness and the mental institutions at Tampoi and Tanjung Rambutan. The government must do much more to erase such misconception. The newspaper's should even be more circumspect in their portrayal of mental health issues and the sufferer's continual shadow - their “black dog”.

KUALA LUMPUR: Retired tea lady Pang Kwai Fong, 69, has been regularly beaten up for the past three years but it is not the blows that really hurt her.
What breaks her heart is her 38-year-old mentally ill son. He is the one who delivered the blows.
She has been hit on her head and various parts of her body, and each time, she feared for her life because her son is bigger. They are the only members of the family.....

Last month, PAS youth chief, Salahuddin Ayub demanded that the road shows relating to Article 11 should be stopped as it was better to discuss it directly with the government. Yesterday, PAS vice president Mohamad Sabu urged ulamaks to adopt the methods used by their latest idol, the terrorist organizations of Hamas and Hisbollah - to lead their faithful into the street to protest. He also castigated the men of PAS, "to put it delicately", as men without balls for failing to be ready to demonstrate.
Once again, the warong kopi has been proven right and we are not surprised with their double talk. After all it has become a way of their life.
Whilst the warong kopi fully believes in the freedom of speech, it does not subscribe per se to any street demonstration, more so when there is a convergence of Islamist religious emotions and political power play.
The public must remain very wary when these Islamists latch on to the current populist issue of price increases. To these Islamists their interest in the welfare of the masses is only secondary. Their primary goal remains the same - total political domination and the establishment of their brand of Shar'ia laws over each one of us.

Ulamak have been urged to lead the crowd during street demonstrations.
PAS vice-president Mohamad Sabu said attention would be garnered should something happen to the ulamak or other respected figures.
“This is how the Hamas (Palestine) and Hisbollah (Lebanon) movements gain massive public support,” he said in his winding up speech at the 52nd PAS Muktamar (general assembly) at the PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut here yesterday.
“The public is not bothered when unknown youths get beaten up during the demonstrations. “If Mat Sabu or Salehuddin Ayub are harmed, people will say depa to memang lok lak (they are looney).”.
Mohamad said if the men were afraid to take matters to the streets, then Muslimat (Muslim women) in PAS would be ready for jihad (holy war).
“If you (the men) are afraid, you might as well wear sarong and stay home. Let the women fight your battle,” he said, adding that women need not seek their husband’s permission to be involved in jihad. “We talk about struggle, but we are not willing to make the sacrifice.” ....

An attendant told the daily Press the man was very calm.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi initially survived the US air strike on his al-Qaida safe house and tried to escape from US special forces as they arrived on the scene, it emerged yesterday.
"We were not aware yesterday that in fact Zarqawi was alive when US forces arrived on the site," Major General William Caldwell told Fox News. He said Iraqi police, who were the first to arrive, had put him on a stretcher. "He obviously had some kind of visual recognition of who they were because he attempted to roll off the stretcher, as I am told, and get away, realising it was US military." Zarqawi was also reported to have mumbled something brief and unintelligible before dying. An autopsy was under way yesterday.

Pas wants the Article 11 group to take their concerns about the religious rights of minorities to the Government.Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub said the umbrella group for 14 non-governmental organisations should immediately stop its series of road shows.....
"But don’t go for road shows. Imagine what will happen if every group with an agenda does that."

Salahuddin Ayub like all Islamist is real big on double standards. It is all right for Islamist to foment unrest in the streets but those accursed infidels organising a forum on minority rights! --- By the beard of Allah! They certainly do not have any right to meet peacefully more so when Article 11A is concerned!
When any forum is stormed by the likes of Salahuddin Ayub and his ilk - mob rule will certainly prevail. Harakah the propaganda mouthpiece of PAS - had the audacity to declare that their storm troopers participated in a "Demonstrasi aman IFC".
And by allowing these troublemakers to infiltrate the meeting hall during the demonstration, some policemen that were on duty seemed to be of the same mind and opinion as the rampaging Islamist.
The Warong Kopi like everyone else is aware that strong Islamist sympathies and tendencies are on the rise within the national uniform services. There will come a day when their religious beliefs collide with their sworn obligation to uphold law and order, then many armed with weapons will start to melt into the general population. The government insisted Tuesday that Muslims and non-Muslims alike in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam should be tried by the planned Islamic Court in the predominantly Muslim province.
State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra told the special committee deliberating a bill on the province's administration that non-Muslims accused of committing ordinary crimes, such as theft and adultery, would be tried under the sharia-inspired bylaws (qanun).
Yusril, responding the proposal of several legislators who wanted non-Muslims to be given the freedom to choose under which law they would be tried, said it would only create legal uncertainty.
"Should such freedom be given, non-Muslims will certainly choose to be tried under the Criminal Code because it carries more lenient punishment," Yusril told the hearing, held to discuss the authority of the planned Islamic Court, also known as Mahkamah Sharia.
Yusril said that in the case of adultery, non-Muslims who committed adultery with Muslims would undoubtedly opt for trial by the Criminal Code because it was more lenient than the stoning or other forms of corporal punishment stipulated under Islamic Law.
A number of factions, such as the Christian-based Prosperous Peace Party (PDS) and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), have proposed that non-Muslims be given the freedom to choose under which law they would be tried for ordinary crimes.
Yusril said later in the hearing that non-Muslims could be exempted for trial by the Islamic Court only in cases related to domestic matters, such as distribution of wealth as well as business and monetary issues.

The government of Indonesian now wants all non Muslim to be tried by Shar'ia laws in Acheh. This Islamist agenda may be on a slow train in Malaysia, nevertheless it is still on track and chugging along to its final destination - "The Station of Shar'ia Law for All" . Meanwhile, Malaysians continue to be complacent about the inch by inch surrender of our constitutional rights to the once shadowy but now powerful and visible proponents of Shar'ia law in Malaysia.
And as in all communities there will be "Judases" within, lurking, waiting for an opportunity to gladly sell their brethren for the biblical 30 pieces of silver, or for more lucrative contracts from the powers that are. Nevertheless, there will always be courageous people who will continue to stand up and be counted in the jihad against these Malaysian Taliban's.
Amongst the very few who have shown great selfless courage of standing up and not wavering despite being negatively tagged as “the now estranged couple” with “the indecent behaviour” are Ooi Kean Thong and Siow Ai Wei.
The "warong kopi" would like to propose that they be nominated for next year Maulidur Rasul Award* - for they have indeed displayed the hallmark of uncommon courage and have shown selfless sacrifice by defending Malaysians of their constitutional rights on fundamental liberties . This is despite the setbacks in their relationship , the snide and disparaging remarks that they have faced.
