The stage is set for a battle of wills in Umno after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared his support yesterday for Perkasa as a crutch for what he said was a weak Umno.
His remarks to the New Straits Times published today come even as Umno began this week to distance itself from the Malay rights group.
Dr Mahathir is Perkasa’s patron, which is seen as representing the views of Umno’s conservative faction who are against Najib’s proposed economic reforms which they claim will erode Malay control of the economy. “Perkasa members are Umno supporters. It would not help Umno’s cause to turn them away,” Dr Mahathir told the New Straits Times yesterday.
He told the Umno-controlled newspaper that the party could not afford to alienate itself from Malay groups such as Perkasa, which were formed because they believed Umno was not doing enough to protect Malay interests.

Israeli forces boarded the Rachel Corrie yesterday after it ignored orders not to head for Gaza, but there was no repetition of the bloody violence that erupted when commandos stormed an aid boat earlier in the week.
The Israeli navy, whose actions on Monday triggered an international outcry, took control of the Rachel Corrie and sailed it to this port where it docked yesterday evening, the Israeli military said.
The military said in a statement: “19 people were on board the boat including eight crew, all of whom will be transferred to the appropriate authorities in the Interior Ministry.”

Pakatan Rakyat leaders have castigated Datuk Seri Najib Razak for not defending the New Economic Model (NEM) against its Malay critics, who claim it erodes their rights.
The prime minister had described the NEM as a “trial balloon”, saying the policy had yet to be finalised in his speech at the closing ceremony of the first Malay Consultative Council (MPM) congress held yesterday at the PWTC. The NEM will be tabled within the 10th Malaysia Plan this June 10.
Datuk Zaid Ibrahim ... said he did not know why people continued to expect so much of Najib.
“What has he done different from before? He hasn’t done anything,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Zaid said he was not surprised at this development, citing the prime minister’s alleged failure at tackling subsidy reform and plugging leakages in government spending.

Four Sibu Methodist churches were given special grants totalling RM1.75 million from the federal government yesterday in the final hours of the by-election campaign.
The award was presented by a representative from the deputy prime minister’s office, according to a report in today’s The Sunday Post.
The money for the church was on top of the RM15 million promised to local schools and a RM5 million pledge by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to alleviate flooding in Rajang Park if his candidate were to win in today’s election.
The Sunday Post report added that the money would be used for upgrading and extension works of church buildings in the city with a pre-dominantly Methodist population.

The Bible Society of Malaysia is fighting to prevent the destruction by the federal government of 5,000 copies of “Al-Kitab: Berita Baik,” a Malay-language Christian bible, in the latest controversy which could have a bearing on this Sunday’s Sibu by-election.
The BSM has appealed to the Home Ministry not to destroy the bibles, which were seized in Port Klang on March 20 last year, but it may already be too late. Its president, Lee Min Choon, said the society was informed in a letter from the Home Ministry Publication Control and Al-Quran text department, dated March 3, 2010, that the bibles would be destroyed within 30 days.
“We have since sent an appeal to the Home Ministry and the prime minister but our copies still have not been released,” Lee said.

Umno lawmakers caused a ruckus in Parliament today when they likened PAS to an Israeli political party, and said that One Israel was similar to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
One Israel, according to him, was a coalition of parties during the 1999 Israeli elections.

Two Perak PKR Wanita leaders quit the party to join Umno yesterday, citing loss of confidence in the leadership.They are Perak PKR Wanita information chief Roshanita Mohd Basir and Tanjung Malim Wanita chief Soraya Sulaiman.
Roshanita’s husband Saghazali Abd Kadir, who is secretary of the party’s Kg Sengat branch near Gopeng, also followed suit.
Ahmad Maslan said PKR had lost its direction as many of its leaders and members were deserting the party.
“Yesterday, Halili (former PKR Hulu Selangor treasurer Dr Halili Rahmat) left. So far, nine PKR leaders have quit,” he said.

Incidentally Pig , er I mean Ib, you are able to put more fear in Muhyddin in a single day compared to what KTK can do in 10 years.

The newly set up inter-faith committee is not a decision-making body that decides on religious issues and conflicts.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the committee did not have the power to decide on religious disputes and would not affect the status and position of Islam.
“It is not a council or commission as proposed by certain quarters in the past,” he told reporters after giving out launching grants for private pre-schools here yesterday.
“It has an administrative role and comes under the Prime Minister’s Department. It’s just a small committee. That is why Datuk Illani Isahak was chosen to head the committee. She has experience. Thus, we gave her a chance.”
Muhyiddin said this when asked to comment on concerns raised by the Malay right wing group, Perkasa. Its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, had claimed that the committee might influence the government on religious matters, and said that Illani was not a good choice to head the body.

He has often taken the route of showing to everyone what a terribly frustrated politician he is - a desperate wannabe who had his dreams of being the Chief Minister of Penang dashed in 2008.
And before he continues his ongoing criticism over the US$3 billion investment deal that the Penang state government turned down, he should move his precious butt and visit the operating sites of some of our much herald GLCs and local manufacturing companies.
He will find that many of our locals who have graduated as engineers are not engineers per se but just "engine-near" - who do not have the ability to think on their feet nor able to string 2 sentences in English without lapsing into their mother tongue.

The Penang state government and Gerakan continued bickering over the decision to turn down a US$3bil (RM10.1bil) investment deal because the state government could not guarantee 1,000 electric and electronic (E&E) engineers required by the company.
In a statement yesterday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s special investment officer Jeffrey Chew lashed out at Gerakan for using hit-and-run tactics and practising a “promise first hope later” attitude.
Chew said this in response to criticism from Penang Gerakan chief Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan who said the state could not afford to turn away investors.
Chew said the Malaysian Employers Federation, among other bodies, had detailed the shortage of E&E engineers in the country.
Dr Teng, he said, should tell the Federal Government to stop discriminating against Penang by refusing to treat it equally in terms of grants, taxes or airport charges.

He said the largest number comprised 317,837 undocumented migrant workers and their dependants while 230,000 more are working in the state legally.
.... Hishammuddin said a total of 5,643 illegal immigrants were detected in the first phase of Ops Bersepadu that focused in the state’s west coast and interior and 4,427 more were uncovered in the second phase in the east coast districts.

A businessman told a corruption trial that he did not force RM9,000 on a former Perak Tengah district councillor in exchange for help to get a project in Seri Iskandar. Mohamad Imran Abdullah, 34, whose testimony was based on a video recording shown in the Sessions Court here yesterday, said PKR politician Usaili Alias had not pushed away the money handed over to him on Aug 11, 2008. Mohamad Imran, who acted as the agent provocateur for the then Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), said he had recorded the transaction at the Excelsior Hotel coffee house here with a pinhole camera given to him by officials from the agency.
Mohamad Imran was testifying against Usaili, 56, who with former PKR exco members Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu, 57, and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, 52, former Perak Tengah district councillor Zul Hassan, 45, and businessman Fairul Azrim Ismail, 31, face various corruption charges over the proposed multi-million ringgit development project.

The outcome of the MCA extraordinary general meeting should form the basis of a leadership solution for the party, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Proceedings barely got off the ground before the protesters started shouting and booing at Khalid, along with Khalid Samad (MP for Shah Alam), and Shah Alam mayor Mazalan Md Noor.
Despite calls for calm, the ruckus continued with the upset residents yelling “Penipu!” (liar!) and “Bodoh!” (stupid!) each time Khalid attempted to address them. Tempers frayed at one point, with rowdy protesters standing on their chairs while shouting.

UrFeG must be seen to take immediate action against it's ministers, their members and the public who condone racial supremacy under the guise of religiosity.
Slam them with the penal code.
But URFeG will not.
URFeG will wait till the witching hour of midnight when the clock starts to chime.
When the nation blinks.
When we have descended into semi chaos and fear reigns.
Only will they act with an iron fist for they will be seen as the savior of the nation.

Talking heads say that the shift of votes from PR to URFeG in Manik Urai is due to URFeG promise of material development. Do not be misled.
It is infighting within PR and within the individual parties that have disillusioned many VOTERS.
A growing minority of the electorate is now weighing their decisions of March 2008.
Anwar must come to fore and rein in the many loose canons that are running wild in PR.

PAS retained the Manik Urai state seat after its candidate Mohd Fauzi Abdullah defeated Barisan Nasional's (BN) Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat by a narrow margin of 65 votes.
Mohd Fauzi, 50, polled 5,348 votes while Tuan Aziz, 39, obtained 5,283 votes.
The margin is a far cry from the party's 1,352-vote majority it obtained in the 2008 general election.

Selangor executive council (exco) member Ronnie Liu has challenged Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong to name the exco member who allegedly has links with the underworld.

Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Azmin Ali, who had called for some state exco members to be replaced, has gone a step further – he has justified his action by saying that he had the support of his party colleagues and the business community.

What a wonderful way to close a lost 3 decades.
In a much earlier era, my late father was similarly separated from his Taiwanese father, a Japanese university graduate.
His father spent many years teaching in different Chinese Association "night schools" moving from Singapore to Kedah in the then Malaya and had to depart in a great hurry to his homeland just prior to the outbreak of the 2nd World War.
He left everyone, his Peranakan wife, his family and everything behind.
It must have broken his heart.
My uncle did visit Taiwan a few times in search of their secretive father but details of him were just too sparse.
Yak Eng Wai's grandchildren will now have their grandfather back.
So it is really nice to hear of a happy ending after 30 years of yearning.

Hindraf plans protests outside DAP offices in six states at 4pm over the High Chaparral issue. Ten Hindraf representatives met Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to hand over the memorandum on problems faced by villagers in Kampung Buah Pala.
Hindraf leader P. Waythamoorthy’s seven-year-old daughter was also with them. Lim said that the Penang Pakatan Rakyat government had never approved the demolition of Kampung Buah Pala. He said any action taken was done by the private developer via a court order.

The Penang state executive council has sacked municipal councillor Johari Kassim, the controversial Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) whip who led a boycott of the swearing-in ceremony of council president Mokhtar Mohd Jait. State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the state executive council unanimously agreed to revoke his appointment under Section 10 (4) of the Local Government Act 1976 during its weekly meeting last Friday.

The number of A’s that an examination candidate gets should not be the determinant in the awarding of any scholarship.
In Malaysia, it is common knowledge that pre released examination results do go through a “racial tailoring” exercise where even the less academically incline students morph from mediocrity to status of academic starlets and the more academically brilliant, super stars.
Such affirmative action may have been politically and morally correct in the early 1980’s.
But to continue to indulge in this unofficial dumbing-down of results after 30 years is plain cheating - sanctioned by the state.
There can be no more opportune time than now to throw away this demeaning “education tongkat”.

From next year, students sitting for the SPM examinations will only be allowed to sit for a maximum of 10 subjects.
The grading system for the examination will also be improved to better reflect the academic achievements of the students.
Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the ministry decided to do away with the open certificate system, which allows students to sit for as many subjects, as the majority only took 10 subjects or fewer.
“Records show that some 90% of students sitting for the SPM exam take 10 or fewer subjects,” the Deputy Prime Minister told reporters yesterday after laying the foundation stone for the new RM1.3bil Education Com-plex at Bandar Enstek near here.
“We want to streamline this as it will also be an easier way to determine the awarding of scholarships.”

The remaining 12 people arrested are DAP workers and staff members of an events management company hired to organise the event which was a call for the dissolution of the state assemby.

A host of contagious viral diseases now race through this land, the latest being the confirmation of a second case of H1N1.
Whilst H1N1 has been bought into this country by well heeled travelers, many of the "re-introduced" diseases and pathogens might just have a connection with the numerous medically unscreened illegal foreign workers (IFW) who now move freely in this country and may be committing a sort of "biological crime".
Since H1N1 spreads from an infected person to another person, the question that begs to be answered is - What if this new virus (for which most people have no immunity to it) leaps into the closely knitted community of IFW? They have few resources to obtain medical attention and it would take only a short while for H1N1 to spread within their community and from then on moving without - to the public.
The Umno Run Federal Government (URFeG) must prevent this "biological crime" from taking place. They have to keep a close watch on the community of IFW failing which, every other measures that they have taken to prevent the spread of H1N1 would be just a sham.

The Chikungunya viral disease detected in the Pokok Sena and Pendang districts of Kedah has spread to two more districts -- Kota Setar and Padang Terap, according to Kedah Director of Health Datuk Dr Hasnah Ismail.
She said the health department had detected two cases in Kampung Baru in the Kota Setar district and several cases in Kampung Baru Naka, Kampung Padang Kerasak, Kampung Tong Plu, Kampung Banggol Pong, Kampung Padang Setol and Kampung Malau in the Padang Terap district.

Twenty-six detainees from the Juru detention camp for illegal immigrants have been admitted to two hospitals here following an outbreak of leptospirosis at the camp.
A 21-year-old detainee from Myanmar died on Tuesday of the bacterial disease after being admitted to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

Ten of the 42 patients being treated in the isolation ward at the Malacca Hospital for suspected meningitis have returned home, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said.
He said in a press statement yesterday that there had not been any new cases from those infected with the disease.
He added that residents and schoolchildren in the area surrounding the academy should not worry about the disease spreading as it was only transmitted through contact with nasal fluids.

Twenty-nine trainees from the Police Training Centre (Pulapah) in Air Hitam, near here, have been placed under observation at the Jempol Hospital after a colleague died from acute pericarditis, which is inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart. The inflammation is usually caused by a viral infection.
The trainee died on Thursday.
Patients and visitors to the hospital panicked when they saw hospital staff members handling the body wearing face masks and gloves.
To allay their fears, hospital director Dr Jaafar Che Mat said the use of face masks and gloves was a normal procedure to prevent the spread of any contagious disease.

DAP state representatives have produced a street survey revealing that more than 70% of Jalan Silibin folk agree with the proposal to rename the road after former Perak DAP chairman P. Patto.
Ipoh Barat MP and local councillor M. Kulasegaran said yesterday that the survey was conducted over three days following protests by certain quarters over the proposal.
He said of the 74 respondents interviewed, 55 supported the idea while 12 disagreed and seven were neutral.
“We made sure we got the views of a multiracial group of people so that all races were represented,” he said.The survey, conducted by Kulasegaran, Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam and several local councillors, focused on business owners and residents along Jalan Silibin .

The Selangor Government recently issued a stop-work order on the building of a Hindu temple atop Bukit Gasing in Petaling Jaya.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will remain as chancellor of state-owned Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel), said Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
He said it was because Unisel’s board of governors had made the decision to appoint Rosmah as the chancellor and the state government has no intention to go against the board.
Asked if Rosmah would be removed if the board decided to do so, Khalid said the state government would look into the matter when it was raised by the board.

The deputy minister of information told a news conference at the party’s national headquarters that Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon had clarified the matter at a meeting of the Barisan Nasional (BN) supreme council meeting on Oct 16. She said she had also met Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last week to explain the matter.

Earlier, Najib said the government will double the size of its state-run investment company Valuecap Sdn. Bhd, which was formed in 2003 to invest in under-valued, but fundamentally strong shares, by pumping in an additional 5 billion ringgit (1.4 billion dollars).
"Yes, our stock market is affected by the sentiments in other markets but I would like to stress that we are not in a financial crisis, and certainly we should not talk ourselves into one," he said.

He said this in response to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s press conference yesterday that the Government would borrow RM5bil from the EPF to double the size of Valuecap to RM10bil. Established in 2003. Valuecap is a fund management firm created to invest specifically in the Malaysian equity market and is jointly owned by Khazanah, PNB and Retirement Fund (Incorporated).

Many are married with 4 or 5 mouths to feed. Their primary mode of transport is by motor cycles and some take a daily two way journey of over 80 kilometers to “cari rezeki”.
With the unconscionable increase in the price of fuel many have expressed a real concern on their ability to make ends meet on a daily basis. Simply put they are restless and are angry that URFeG has been indifferent to their daily struggles.

Thai motorists started coming over the border yesterday to buy petrol and diesel.
Although Malaysia has reduced the subsidy, fuel is still cheaper in the country than it is in Thailand.
Suriani Sulaiman, a trader, said she was glad that the Malaysian government had lifted the ban."This shows that the Malaysian government, especially the prime minister, is concerned about us Thai people.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Wednesday announced price hikes for petrol, diesel and electricity.
He said the new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre, effective midnight tonight. The price goes up by 78sen from the current RM1.92, a hike of 40%.
Abdullah also announced that the price of diesel would be increased by RM1 from RM1.58 to RM2.58.
He also said that Tenaga Nasional Bhd would be raising electricity rates by 18% for homes and 26% for business users.

It was not too long ago that the Warong kopi heard sniggering comments’ concerning students who achieved strings of A’s not on the strength of their academic ability but because of who they are.
These pseudo intellectuals were then sent abroad on their purported scholastic abilities. Having to compete on a level playing field on foreign soil many of the finest were bested even by the local average performing students.
And if such comments are true, then the PSD basis for awarding scholarships even on a ratio of 1,100 to 900 is but a sham and a great injustice to those who truly deserve it.

There is a fairer distribution of Public Service Department scholarships for all races for degree studies abroad from this year, with 1,100 going to Bumiputeras and 900 to non-Bumiputeras.Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said 45 per cent of the scholarships were for non-Bumiputera students compared with 10 per cent previously.

When the UMNO Run Federal Government (URFeG) dishes out awards, one can almost be sure that they will shadow the ratio of 70:20:10 of which 70% will be given to the Malays, 20% to the Chinese and 10% to the Indians.
Yesterday the URFeG presented their “Perpaduan Awards” to 7 Malaysians in honor of their “extensive contribution towards unity, peace and harmony amongst Malaysians”. The racial makeups of its recipients were again 70:20:10.
To the Warong kopi, awards which are based on racial representation are an affront to the dignity of the recipients. This is even more so when such awards are given for the promotion of racial unity.
The URFeG must realize that real unity can never exist when their sacred cow of race based ratios are openly worshiped and when color, race and creed continues to be their primary building blocks to erect their ketuanan.
The Warong kopi opines that the only one person who till this day has the power to unify Malaysians regardless of race, color and creed and who can without doubt honorably uphold the title of Tokoh Perpaduan is Raja Petra Kamarudin.
What says the PR government?

Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and Datuk Michael Chong were among seven personalities honoured for their extensive contribution towards unity, peace and harmony among Malaysians.
Social activist Lee, 62, was named Tokoh Perpaduan (Unity Hero) while Chong, head of the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department was awarded the Kalung Perpaduan (Unity Chain) by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The awards were given in conjunction with the launch of Unity Month yesterday.
The other Tokoh Perpaduan was former Sabah Yang di-Pertua Tun Sakaran Dandai.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has quit Umno saying he has totally lost confidence in its leadership.
He made the unexpected announcement in front of about 1,500 people at a forum in response to a dare from one of the participants to lead the way in leaving the party.
Asking other Umno members to follow in his footsteps, Dr Mahathir, 83, said they should not join any other political parties but should rejoin Umno once Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has resigned as party president and prime minister.

However is it right for you to insist on an overseas scholarship so that your world does not collapse and your dream to study medicine realized? Come on get real. K. Kamine Devi was shocked that the Public Services Department (PSD) had turned down her application to study medicine overseas despite her having scored 10A1s in last year's SPM.
This after the PSD had issued a statement recently guaranteeing scholarships for students who scored 9As in their SPM.
What was worse was that her application for a matriculation programme was also rejected.
Kamine, 17, said she had her heart set on becoming a doctor and even participated in an attachment programme in April that exposed her to a doctor’s job.
“I couldn't believe my eyes when I found out on Sunday through the PSD website that my application was unsuccessful,” she said yesterday, adding that she checked the result of her application several times.
“I felt that my world collapsed that day,” said the former student of SMK Ahmad Boestamam in Sitiawan, about 90km from here.

It was only less than a month that the Waromg Kopi highlighted that the NS training department announced its victim number 22 died of a “simple fever”.
Last week, Hui Min died of “constipation” - victim 23.
In as far as the authorities are concerned Hui Min death is once again just another unfortunate incident.
But to many rakyat, the pain of NS far exceeds that of its purported objective of fostering unity.
Surely there is a much less sinful way for cronies to make that extra buck.
Let justice be seen, book the camp commandant for manslaughter by gross negligence.

The family of Too Hui Min, the national service (NS) trainee who died after complaining of constipation, is suing the NS Training Department for negligence.
“We believe it was more than constipation and we want justice for our daughter,” said Hui Min’s mother Chin Kwee Choo, 52.
“How can a healthy girl die all of a sudden like this?” she asked.
Hui Min, from Geo Kosmo NS Training Camp in Kuala Kubu Baru, died at Slim River Hospital on Wednesday at 10.45pm after complaining of constipation.

Two days ago that I received this letter from a very close friend of mine.
His son attended the camp in Sintok, Kedah.
Below is a reproduction of that letter he wrote but did not send because of some personal reasons.
And like many other parents who would have had a "taste" of what NS really is, he hopes that the authorities will listen to the rakyat.
NS does not meet its objective. It kills.

Dear Sir,
Subject : An open letter to Tuan Haji Abdul Hadi bin Awang Kechik on the Intimidation and Assault in Kem Latihan Khidmat Negara Sintok at University Utara. Kedah.

My son …….. joined the National Service camp in Sintok University, Kedah on the 18^th of March 2007.
During my 1^st visit (24^th of March) to the Sintok camp, I noticed that my son was looking exceeding tired and edgy. I asked him as to what had transpired during the week. He then told me that he was picked upon by a group of his fellow trainees of the same dormitory and was subjected to continuous sleep depravation, physically harassed from the third night of his stay and was sexually harassed at night when some of them groped his buttocks.

I then reported this to the trainer in charge of his dormitory, a Mr ……., who then without showing any interest replied that he would look into this issue. Despite my misgiving I then left the NS camp for that week.
A few days later, on the 27^th, my son called up from the public phone booth and I enquired about his situation. He then told me that Mr ……. spoke to some of the trainees who abused him but to his surprise, the trainees came out of the room with lit cigarettes in their hands. I understand that smoking is strictly prohibited in the NS camps. He also told me that on the 26^th of March, he was threatened with a piece of plank by the same group of trainees after a trainer announced during a gathering that someone had reported the sexual harassment. My son reported this incident of threat to 3 trainers. No action was taken and the harassment steadily got worse.

I immediately visited the Sintok camp on the 28^th, I requested a meeting with the camp Commander a Mr …… but was told that he was in an interview. The Assistant Commander Mr ….. then saw me. I expressed my concern over the physical safety of my son and was told that he was not advised of this harassment and threat by any of the trainers. Accordingly to him, trainers tend to keep such issues from the knowledge of the administrative department. Mr ….. then promised me that he would take immediate action. He also promised that he would seek the camp Commander’s permission to transfer my son out from his present dormitory. I then left the camp with the assurance that the necessary disciplinary action would be taken.

I called up Mr ….. at the Sintok camp in the early evening of the same day and enquired if my son had been moved to a new dormitory. He was still in the same dormitory and I had to re-insist that my son be transferred to another dormitory. He was then moved from dormitory F to dormitory O. As he was preparing to leave his dormitory the same group of trainees assaulted him physically by continuously raining blows on his head. He then requested the presence of a trainer who than ensured that he was able to move to dormitory O without further physical assault.

On the 1^st of April, I telephoned Mr ……. He gave me his full assurance that nothing would befall upon my son. He also assured me that he would take firm disciplinary action against my son’s abusers. He asked for a detailed report from my son and my son submitted a full report. Mr …… then told him that he would interview him. Until the day I took my son away from the camp, there was no interview.

On the 5^th thru 9^th of April, I took my son home for the Easter/Cheng Beng break. Even though I was very much against the idea of bringing him back to the Sintok camp, my son driven by his passion for the outdoors and his idealism for “Berkhidmat untuk Negara” requested me to allow him to complete his National Service regardless of him being abused, intimidated and assaulted.

I relented and I sent him back to the Sintok camp. The harassments and intimidation continued whenever this group of trainees met him. Despite all the promises and the assurances for my son’s safety given by the management of the camp, no action was taken against this group of trainees and if there were any it was far too ineffective.

On the 23^rd of April, my son phoned me and once again I questioned him on the situation. He told me that on the 22^nd of April he was stabbed on the right hand side of his abdomen with a bamboo stick and the bamboo was also used to strike his abdomen. He reported this to the disciplinary head on the same day. The disciplinary head then told my son that he would report the assault to the Commander. Once again the Commander was away.
On the 24^th of April at about 8.20am, I called up Mr …. at his Kuala Lumpur office and told him what had transpired at the Sintok Camp. I mentioned to him that I was already on the way to take my son from the Sintok camp. About 10 minutes latter, Mr …… phoned me, however our conversation was abruptly terminated. He rang up the second time almost an hour later and told me that I could take my son home. Mr …. followed up with a call about 2~3 minutes latter and offered my son an alternative camp. I was non-committal.

When I reached the Sintok camp, I saw Mr …… and I told him that I was there to take my son back. I also mentioned that I would be making a police report on the Sunday assault. He paged for my son who then came to the administrative office.
I was to know subsequently from my son that he was hauled up about 9.30am on the same morning by 7 or 8 trainers. He was interrogated in the presence of the trainees, who had bullied, intimidated and assaulted him.

During this interrogation one of the trainers using the pretext of showing how acts of force can be performed, manhandled my son by forcefully shoving him with his bended elbow and jabbed his upper part of the body with his finger. My son was then forced to apologize and to ask for forgiveness from the bullies who assaulted him.

I have made a police report (Reference – BKT K_Hitam/000682/07) and have not sent my son back to any of the NS camps as the safety of my son cannot be assured.

The events that happened within the 6 weeks have psychologically traumatized my son. He is a more disillusioned youth knowing that racism does and still do exist in the only country that he loves and lives in. As for my family and me, the inaction of the relevant authorities has also proved to be a physically and emotionally draining experience. I was warded last Saturday (27^th April) through Monday (30^th april) in two private hospitals ( ….. …….. Specialist Hospital and subsequently moved to the ……… Hospital in Penang) for emotional and physical exhaustion.

I would like to request Tuan Haji to launch an investigation into this issue and to revert on the disciplinary measures that have been taken against both trainees and the trainers who were involved in the bullying. I would also request that the authorities in charge of NS Sintok to explain to me and to the public as to how discipline can be so sadly lacking in the only NS Camp situated within a University campus.

Raja Petra, 58, claimed trial in the Sessions Court on Tuesday to publishing a seditious article on April 25.
He became the first blogger to be charged under the Sedition Act 1948, making it a test case.
He is accused of publishing the article "Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell" on the website www.malaysia-today.net.
The article is alleged to have contained nine paragraphs of seditious words.
Sessions Court judge Nurmala Salim set five days from Oct 6 for trial and granted Raja Petra bail of RM5,000.
He declined to post bail and was taken to Sg Buloh prison.

Apart from sex crimes on children, the next most despicable crime men can commit is for them to take advantage of widows who are often most vulnerable in their pain and loneliness.

A 22-year-old widow was drugged and raped by her friend who then blackmailed her into having sex with three other men on two occasions.
The woman, from Kelantan, had lost her husband in a road accident two years ago.
Her ordeal began about 3am on April 19 when she and her friend were having a meal at a hawker's stall near her hostel.
Soon after, she began to feel dizzy and her male friend then took her back to the hostel.
After she woke up, she discovered that she was naked and that her wallet was missing.
Not long after, she received a call from her friend saying nude pictures of her had been taken.
She was warned not to report the incident to the authorities or her nude pictures would be posted on the Internet. Terrified, she agreed to the demand.
On April 22, three men arrived at the hostel and forced the woman to go with them.
She was taken to a location in Kajang where they took turns raping her.
The next day, she was taken to a house in Bukit Bintang where the same suspects raped her again. She was again warned not to report the matter to the police.
This time, however, the traumatic experience was too much for her and the woman lodged a report at the Serdang police station on Sunday.
Police are currently looking for three suspects to facilitate investigations.

Ahmad Zahid becomes the boss of the Sultan of Perak when he tells his Royal Highness that it is now “wajib” for Ngeh to be stripped of his datukship.
The Warong kopi contends that even without any honorific title fronting his name - NKH would work just as hard and would continue to remain a loyal subject to the Sultan. Contrast this to the recently defeated UMNO run government of Perak. To show their disdain for royal authority, they demanded the resignation of 786 village chiefs in Perak just days after the Pakatan administration was appointed by the Sultan of Perak.
That is true treason.

It is wajib (compulsory) for Perak senior executive councillor Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham to be stripped of his datukship for going against the Perak Sultan’s call for the reinstatement of Datuk Jamry Sury, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said that Ngeh, in his statement on Saturday, seemed to have gone against the Sultan’s wishes for Jamry, the Perak Religious Department director, to be reinstated.
He likened Ngeh’s act to that of treason.

Jacques Chirac, the French President, is sitting in his office when his telephone rings.
"Hallo, Mr. Chirac!" a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Clare, Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"
"Well, Paddy," Chirac replied, "Theez eez indeed important news! How big is your army?"
"Right now," says Paddy, after a moment's calculation, "there's meself, me cousin Sean, me next-door neighbour Seamus, and the entire darts team from the pub. That makes eight!"
Chirac paused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100,000 men in my army waiting to move on my command."
"Begorrah!" says Paddy. "I'll have to ring you back."

Sure enough, the next day, Paddy calls again. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on. We have managed to get us some infantry equipment!"
"And what equipment would zat be, Paddy?" asks Chirac.
"Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor."
Chirac sighs, amused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 6,000 tanks and 5,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I have increased my army to 150,000 since we last spoke."
"Saints preserve us!" exclaims Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you."

Sure enough, Paddy rings again the next day. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We have modified Jackie McLaughlin's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock Bar have joined us as well!"
Chirac was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military bases are surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I have increased my army to 200,000!"
"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!" says Paddy, "I will have to ring you back."

Sure enough, Paddy calls again the next day. "Top o' the mornin', Mr.Chirac! I am sorry to inform you that we have had to call off the war."
"Really? I am sorry to hear that," says Chirac. "Why the sudden change of heart?"
"Well," says Paddy, "we had a long chat over a few pints of Guinness, and decided there is no fookin' way we can feed 200,000 prisoners".

Jeff, you are wrong to call the former members of Pertubuhan Bunga Tanjung (~~CBT~~ PBT) “desperate housewives”.
When they dissolved the PBT on 9^th of March, they did what most spouses would have done - to show their support for their husband’s political agenda.
What is now more important is to ensure that the contributions that were secured by them had been used to help the poor and the needy. If they have mishandled the finances of PBT, a report to the Anti Corruption Agency must be made and let justice run its course.
And please do not denigrate the noun “housewife”. The former members of PBT are mere “house-bond puan sri’s and datin sris” who may be getting as uncomfortable as their comrades the Balkist of Selangor. But again who would not be - with the scepter of 4 grey walls closing on them each day?

There will be no open debate but Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is prepared to meet the wife of his predecessor and former members of the dissolved Pertubuhan Bunga Tanjung (PBT) on the handling of the association’s funds.
He said he did not see a need for a debate with Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng, wife of Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, because he believed the association was upset by his chief-of-staff Jeff Ooi’s comments in his blog.
“Ooi is now taking a break in Vietnam. When he returns on Monday, he can do the necessary explanation.
“It’s not proper for me to debate over issues which I didn’t raise,” he told a press conference after the swearing-in ceremony for state assemblymen here yesterday.
Lim was responding to a challenge by Chui, the former PBT president, to him and Ooi for a public debate over the handling of the association’s funds.
She had given the DAP politicians a 48-hour ultimatum to respond.
He also referred to former PBT members as “desperate housewives”.

The DG of Jakim, Wan Mohamad has issued a strong challenge to the administration of AAB and has publicly humiliated the premier by telling him to “fly kite” over the latter proposal which requires non-Muslims to inform their family before their conversion to Islam.
Will the minister in the PM department Ahmad Zahid who declared last month that “all officers working with Islamic agencies must support the government policies or they will have to quit their jobs” rise up to Wan Mohamad challenge and pick up that thrown gauntlet? Or will he with feet of clay quietly sneak away in fear and hope that Wan Mohamad challenge stays unnoticed by the public.

Senior Islamic leaders have rejected a proposal to require non-Muslims wishing to convert to Islam to inform their family before doing so.
Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said this was decided at a recent conference in Seremban to streamline Syariah and civil laws.
The conference was attended by state legal advisors, muftis, syarie judges and Islamic department directors.
“It is the unanimous conclusion of the conference members that the implementation of the proposal was unnecessary,” said Wan Mohamad.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had said the Government would introduce a regulation requiring non-Muslims wishing to convert to Islam to inform their family before doing so.
He said this would prevent problems of families disputing the conversion of their loved ones when they die.

The AAB media is making the most out of the Balkis issue and continues to deliver underbelly blows at Khir Toyo for being on the wrong side of UMNO political divide.

Nothing wrong with the junkets, except that their excesses were paid for by the state government and private donors, who contributed money in the belief that it was going to good causes. Attempts to get an insight into its operations have come to naught – newly appointed state executive councillors Teresa.
Kok and Elizabeth Wong who had gone to the Balkis secretariat to seek information and collect files were refused entry. Staff had been“instructed” not to allow access to the office - some of its programmes raise the question if Balkis’ philanthropy is a façade for a group of VIPs to enjoy themselves at the expense of generous donors who included state government subsidiaries.
In the eight years that Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo has been mentri besar, his wife and Balkis president Datin Seri Zaharah Kechik (above) has led delegations to Europe, Hongkong and Australia.
According to sources in the state government, these trips were listed as among Balkis’ annual activities but had nothing to do with charity.
Balkis’ accounts have never been made public and no one is sure if they too had suffered the same fate as other documents – shredded and destroyed after Barisan Nasional (BN)’s rule in Selangor ended on March 8.

What if it had been an extra 3 votes for Tan Seng Giaw?
That would certainly have been a great start for the 12^th Parliament and would have shaken the URFeG to its core.

The opposition was left flummoxed yesterday over its solidarity when its candidate for the deputy speaker's position, Dr Tan Seng Giaw, polled 81 votes instead of the expected 82.
After the vote, opposition deputies singled out independent, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, as the likely villain.
Ibrahim was coy about it.
"My vote is secret. I am a man of integrity. It is up to people to say what they want. It is confidential," Ibrahim said.
Though an independent, Ibrahim had contested the Pasir Mas seat on a Pas ticket.
Ibrahim said he did not have any problems with Dr Tan and counted him a friend.

WE, THE COMMON PEOPLE THE ENEMY.

The UMNO run federal government (URFeG) has embarked on a “scorched earth” policy against the 5 PR states. This strategy was used by the Russians during the 1812 French invasion of Russia and was also deployed in 1941 against the invading Germans. The Iraqis under Saddam used it in 1990 when their retreating army set the oil wells of Kuwait on fire.
The “scorched earth policy” seeks to deny all things which are useful to the enemy and the URFeG parallels this by obstructing funds from being sent to and/or by moving funds out of to the 5 PR states. They have also maliciously targeted the most valuable resource of all, capable man and women who are willing to serve their states but have the misfortune to be shackled by virtue of their position within the BN.
While these hateful actions against the common people of the 5 states reflect the current URFeG political insecurities, it also reveals much of their dodgy ideology. What used to be their common strategy of "divide and rule" of communities - they have now extended it to the states under the stewardship of the PR government and have now categorized we, the common people as their enemy to be subjected to their scorched earth policy.
Anyone for BNs election promise of "security,peace and prosperity for all"?

The state government is challenging a move to dissolve the organisation by the Selangor Wives Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis). Balkis is an association for the wives of past and serving Selangor elected representatives.
The state government is also moving to block a move by members to transfer RM9.9 million of the organisation's funds to the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti).

Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik yesterday called Lee an opportunist and lacking in principle.
"Run Penang but there is no need to poach our people and he (Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng) called this the new era of politics."

Four days after being told of delays in the second Penang bridge project, the state could face further setbacks – the monorail and Penang Outer Ring Road projects may not take off.Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the mega projects have yet to be approved by the Federal Government and have not reached the “approval stage”.

The Star asks “Whose money is it?”.
The Warong kopi says "Don't be a star ass! The money does not belong to the Datin Sris and Datins. It was collected from the rakyat and belongs to the people of Selangor. The PKR-DAP-PAS government has been democratically elected by the people and therefore represents the people."
Perhaps to assuage the concern of Zahara Kechik, she could be the special representative of the losers of 8308 and rope in as a committee member of the ‘New Balkis”.

Questions are being asked whether it was correct for the Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis) to transfer out the RM9.9mil it had in its coffers a few days after the state fell to the Opposition.

The CM of Penang must forge on and do what is best for Penang. Negative advices from within the ranks of DAP should be set aside and unsolicited comments from the now drowning UMNO chairman ignored.
LGE must draw lessons from the mistakes of Paul Bremer, the 1st US administrator of post war Iraq. The latter foolishly disbanded Saddam’s army, fired thousands of school teachers and started a purge of capable government leaders because they were Ba'ath party members. For hIs folly, Iraq today is in a quagmire of endless suffering and pain.
The DAP-PKR government must not mirror the stupidity of Paul Bremer or the arrogance of the UMNO run federal government. It is no shame that the DAP-PKR government do not have the best people and have to appoint an "outsider" of the caliber of Lee Kah Choon. However, it will be a greater shame should they hold back the appointment of the most capable and the willing just because of some past political hang up.

The move by Datuk Lee Kah Choon to accept the posts of director of Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and investPenang is opposed to the Barisan Nasional spirit, said party chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Abdullah, who is also prime minister, said Lee cannot accept the two posts offered by the Penang state government before conferring with the Gerakan leadership.

On the same issue, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said it was wrong for Lee to accept the appointment and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should not have offered it in the first place.

And how long more before any one is charge with dereliction of duty?

National Service (NS) trainee at the Sentosa Chenderiang training camp in Tapah near here died of fever last night.
NS Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said Afiq Zuhairi Ahmat Rozali, 18, died at Teluk Intan Hospital at 9.30pm while undergoing treatment.
Abdul Hadi said the trainee was first treated by an assistant medical officer at the camp on Monday after he complained of fever.

Tax payers play the role of fools as they pay NS trainers for their undeserved 5 days paid holiday and some crony make an extra bundle along the way.

National Service trainees, who are unable to make it back home during a five-day break from May 8 to 13, may apply for paid excursions.
They will be given two days off to go on "free and easy" day trips, to any location within 100km of their camp.
Expenses for the trips will be borne by the National Service Training Department.
NS director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil announced this at the open day at the Setia Ikhlas camp here.
But, he added that trainees would have to return to their camp for the night.
He said the five-day holidays were intended to give some 31,000 trainees a break since there were no major festivals for this year's second batch of trainees.

While its editorial bashed almost everyone who had a hand in UMNOs 12th election debacle, the editors have conveniently left the feared SIL out.
The Warong kopi is certain that the public have not forgotten that it was the SIL arrogance coupled with his incendiary exhortations to “arms” that goaded mindless “yes men” to racist chants and behaviors.
The SIL hand is still long and his influence is still strong.

People are getting fed up with Umno’s moaning and groaning, the political wayang and sandiwara its cast of characters is playing up and down the country.
The truth is that the people have long been disgusted with the kind of boorish, loutish behaviour that Umno leaders had exemplified because of their grip on power since independence in 1957.
Brandishing the kris was hurtful to the non-Malays but the party leadership did nothing to take the Umno Youth chief to task for the menacing and insulting gesture. Which was why he was emboldened to repeat it and provide extra impetus for the Chinese and Indians to abandon the BN at the polls.
It also did not go unnoticed that the leadership put up with the racist and inflammatory rhetoric of the delegates at the televised 2006 Umno general assembly.
Then there was the desecration of the temple under the watch of the then Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo which did so much to outrage the Hindus throughout the country and turn them against the ruling coalition. And Dr Khir had the cheek to award a broom to a local council president, when neither he nor the party president could control the warlords who held the party to ransom over the choice of candidates, and stabbed the party in the back when they did not approve of the candidates.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is now paying for these and other acts of omission, including the undeliverable promises of change that he made when he first became prime minister in 2003.
Every other day, he has had to deflect attacks by party members and ex-leaders who conveniently have absolved themselves of any fault. But every day that he is sidetracked by party bickering is another day affairs of state are neglected — the nation and the people are the losers.
Abdullah has said that he has got the message; he has accepted responsibility for the unkept pledges; and this time, he vows he will deliver on his promises and set the country in order before he retires.
That is, in fact, the verdict of his mandate, and he should be allowed to get on with it. But all the worms crawling out of the Umno woodwork — especially the retired and those with shelf lives past due who have found new breath in their calls for a party coup — won’t let him.
They don’t get it. Abdullah is not solely to be blamed and everything will not suddenly be all well again if he goes. Umno from the roots to the high branches all have to share the blame for their silence, their greed, arrogance and shenanigans that have turned off voters. So stop the navel-gazing and infighting.
If they have to fight among themselves, at least have the decency to keep it civilised and behind closed doors. They don’t have to drag the whole country through their infernal politicking.
There are more important things than private peeves and settling of scores.
Neither the brewing crisis over soaring food prices nor other major issues are going to wait for Umno to put its own house in order. Now is the time for the grand old party to move on, do the things its leaders have promised and show that it still has what it takes to lead the nation.

No sooner had Ahmad Shabery commented on the one sided and biased political slants over our television and newspapers, the NST had the cheek to come out with an editorial on "everyone is to be blamed for the fiasco of 8308, of course with the exception of ..."

Traditional media such as television and newspapers no longer have the credibility that they once commanded among readers and viewers.

The Warong kopi does not want to dwell too much on what Sivasubramaniam said when he quitted the DAP. Although he has a legal right to do what he did, he has chosen an immoral road to express what he so very much desires, an executive council seat in the Perak government.
Perhaps Sivasubramaniam was egged on by “the greatest person ever born” when the latter opined that “the appointment of a single Indian executive council member in Perak is insufficient to cater to the needs of the community”. Perhaps the Buntong assemblyman took the opportunity to ride on the statement and (if there was ever one) offered himself to the highest bidder.
We may never know what lies in the dark recess of the heart of man.
However, we know that it would be for the greater good of the rakyat and the nation if he does not squander this new hope that was born in all of us on 80308. But then again, can the rakyat ever trust a man who shuts down his conscience when he hears the sirens of opportunity calling him?

Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam has quit DAP, leaving the DAP-PKR-PAS coalition government in Perak teetering on the brink of collapse. In a letter to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng dated March 31, Sivasubramaniam said he had had lost confidence in the Perak DAP as it failed to fulfill its promise to appoint two Indian state executive council members.
He added the decision was a "big slap" in the face of Perak Indians and tantamount to deceiving the community.
He also questioned why DAP central executive committee member A. Sivanesan, who is from Selangor, was chosen as an exco over other Perak DAP leaders.
Sivasubramaniam claimed that he and state party committee member and Tronoh assemblyman V. Sivakumar were supposed to get the exco posts as they had worked hard and sacrificed a lot for the party.
He added that even if an Indian Perak DAP member were to get an assembly Speaker or Deputy Speaker post, it could not “do much for the Indian community.”

Schools in the five states controlled by the opposition coalition have been verbally adviced to take a "neutral" stance in inviting executive councillors or state assemblyman for official functions.
And this is being interpreted to mean that the schools should refrain from inviting executive councillors or assemblymen from opposition parties, at least until further notice.
Acting state education director Ibrahim Mohamad said schools have been verbally told to take a neutral stand for the time being.
He said the directive was issued by the department after being advised by the Education Ministry to take a neutral stand.
Ibrahim said he understood that the same directive was issued to education departments in all five states governed by the opposition.

..... and imposed summary punishment on petty traders and hawkers for minor offenses in the FT because they gave overwhelming support to the "opposition" during the May 8th general election.
These arrogant lap-dogs have chosen to ignore their social responsibilities to the community and have instead consciously put their partisan political beliefs above all else ..... or perhaps they are expendable pawns used by both the young and the ambitious to subvert AAB from working with the 5 "opposition" state governments.
Regardless of the reasons, the people should not be make to suffer even when vindictiveness and flaming ambitions rule the nation.

Ten of the 11 MPs in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur today slammed Kuala Lumpur City Hall for "involving itself in politics" and being pro-Barisan Nasional (BN).
The MPs from the DAP, PAS and PKR alleged that this was apparent from heightened enforcement against hawkers, petty traders and City Hall tenants following the March 8 general election, ostensibly to punish them for the overwhelming support for the Opposition, leading to BN's loss and rejection in the FT. City Hall director-general Datuk Salleh Yusup refuted the allegations, claiming the crackdown is part and parcel of City Hall enforcement.

The Warong kopi says “Hats off to the Minister in the PM department if he is able to rein in those rouges from the Islamic agencies”. All too often these zombied-minded rouges were let off with merely a ~~slap~~ tap on the wrist. Malaysians are tired of their "holier than thou attitude" and demand to see concrete action being taken against these immoral "moral police" of JAIS and their puppet masters.

The CM of all Penangites has started on a long journey of fostering changes – one of which is to stem the tide of regressive religious tolerance.
His attendance at the state level Mualidur Rasul celebration carries great political and religious significance.
The years of divisive rule under the BN government has taken a huge moral and spiritual toll on the psyche of Malaysia. This was made all too clear when the component parties from BN twiddled their fingers and looked away when the rights of the religious minority were methodically challenged by religious extremist.
Last week, AAB once again declared himself to be the Prime Minister for all.
But will "the Prime Minister for all" walk that same road that the CM of Penang walk? Will he continue to turn aside when religious extremists from within the BN government chip away the fundamental right for all Malaysians to profess and practice their own religion?

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and two DAP exco members attended the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebrations at the Seberang Jaya expo site here yesterday. He said he was glad he was able to attend the function,which was attended by about 3,000 Muslims. “I understand this is the first time a Penang Chief Minister is attending this celebration,” he told reporters covering the event.
Lim said he had sought advice from Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, state Mufti Datuk Hassan Ahmad, PAS and PKR leaders on his attendance and was told he could do. He said he was willing to attend other religious festivals if invited, noting that the state government respected all religions.
Besides Lim and Mohammad Fairus, the exco members were Lim Hock Seng and Phee Boon Poh.

To put it in politic-speak “The federal opposition parties have no experience in luring power seeking opportunist” The experience belongs to the BN and in Sabah, the PBS.

No Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) MPs have been approached by PKR leaders to cross over to the Opposition, said its deputy president Datuk Dr Maximus
Ongkili. “The Opposition would not dare. We’re a team of principled leaders. Why should PKR and the Opposition engage in this disrespectful act of ‘buying’ elected representatives?
“We have had enough of frog politics in the past ….. Stressing that such acts must be condemned, he said politicians who leapfrog must be removed.
“Those who promote this sort of dirty and undignified politics should be condemned by the people. It’s a corrupt practice,” said Dr Maximus.

If only the PM hears and respects the religious right of the minority just as well as Sime Darby "sees" it.

Sime Darby Berhad has fulfilled its promise to rebuild two Hindu temples demolished in an estate belonging to the company in Rantau Negeri Sembilan.
The temples were demolished in the midst of the recently-concluded general election.
The company’s executive vice-president (plantation and agri-business division) Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said the temples were rebuilt with stronger foundation and designed according to specification of the estate’s temple committee."The temple committee will now pick up an auspicious day to perform the necessary religious rites before the workers can worship there.

The warong kopi is taken aback by the uncalled statements hurled by bloggers at LKS when he announced that the DAP CEC did not mandate a PAS MB in Perak.
It seems to me that many bloggers are now all too quick and eager to display their newly found political correctness and probably some are under the delusion that they are the mighty movers and shakers of our changed political map. Perhaps even a few would have felt and equated themselves to be political geniuses.
To these bloggers I say, wake up from your supper ego delusion.
What the “opposition” is today is a cumulation of blood, sweat and tears of the last 30 years. Many bloggers were not even born when LKS was first detained under ISA 39 years ago. If it had not been for this “typical sore senile old man” who stayed the course and fought for all, Malaysian today would most probably be googling "freedom of speech" and not enjoying the speech of freedom in this country of ours.
For all that is worth, LKS eventually did retract his statement and did apologize to the Sultan and the Regent of Perak.
Some bloggers have backtracked from their initial scathing condemnation.
Some have not.
Perhaps political geniuses are given this exemption.

The crisis which developed yesterday over the appointment of a PAS menteri besar in a DAP-led Perak state assembly seemed to have been resolved today.
DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang who rejected the appointment of a PAS candidate today apologised for any offence caused to the Perak royalty over his statement.
“My three-paragraph statement at 7pm last night that the DAP central executive committee emergency meeting on March 9 had not given approval for a PAS mentri besar to head a Perak coalition state government was not made out of disrespect to the Perak sultan and regent, both whom I have always held in the highest regard and I apologise for any offence caused," he said.

The MCA state chief without a state sows disunity amongst the rakyat and insults the royal house of Perak.
If a man of LKS stature can apologize to the Sultan and the Regent of Perak, what more this mouse of a man who hides behind the shadow of his younger brother?

DAP has cheated its voters as a PAS state assemblyman will be sworn in as the Perak mentri besar today, Perak MCA chief Datuk Ong Ka Chuan said.

Ong, who is also the MCA secretary-general, said DAP should apologise to its voters, saying it was sad to hear that Perak PAS secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin will be the mentri besar.

He said Mohammad's appointment went against the wishes of voters, especially non-Muslims.

“Having a mentri besar from PAS creates fear among non-Muslims. This also creates political instability.”

It is indeed not only a new dawn for Malaysia and Perak.

The Regent of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and wife Raja Puan Besar Tuanku Zara Salim were blessed with a prince on Friday.

The royal baby was delivered at around 10am at the Damansara Specialist Hospital near here.

It is learnt that both mother and son are well and healthy.

Sultan Azlan Shah and Tuanku Bainun who were also present arrived at the hospital at about 1.25pm and left after spending approximately an hour there.

Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, 52, the eldest child of Sultan Azlan Shah and Tuanku Bainun, married 35-year-old Tuanku Zara Salim at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar on May 17 last year.

Zara is the grandniece of first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Great Power = Great Responsibility

Many of us read comics when we were growing up. Comic diehards will remember super-hero Spiderman’s Uncle Ben’s famous tagline: With great power comes great responsibility.
I’m also reminded of a line from Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’: Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

It doesn’t really matter whether one is born great or has greatness thrust upon him, it is only important that as a leader, he must first acknowledge that this power is a gift and stewardship from God and the people who have voted him into this position of power. Leaders must realize that they are merely stewards, NOT God and that they are accountable for their actions and all that which have been entrusted to them. They possess this power not for their own personal gain but that they may be a channel of blessing to others.

It is also interesting to note that super-heroes are not the only ones with power, super-villains too possess this power. The difference is how they use their power. The former use power for the good of others, the latter use it for their own ends. The saying, ‘Absolute power corrupts absolutely’ is absolutely true. Leaders must constantly be on guard against the temptation to abuse power for their personal agenda. They must also never use it to destroy the integrity of others to safeguard their own position of power.

With great power comes great responsibility and with great responsibility comes the need for faithfulness, integrity, transparency, humility, willingness and commitment to serve others above self. For these traits constitute the hallmark of a truly great leader.

At the end of the day, it’s not how much power you have but how you wield that power that counts.

The DAP is losing patience with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) over the slow pace of negotiation on seat allocations.
Parliamentary opposition leader Lim Kit Siang said he was disappointed that there was little progress in talks for an electoral understanding between the two parties to avoid three-cornered fights.
"By now, all parties should be making their final plans for the battle and not be bogged down by seat allocations," he said after attending the Thaipusam celebrations at the Sri Subramaniar Temple at Gunung Cheroh here yesterday.

If the UMNO run government is really concern over the financial plight of this group, then they should extend the statutory retirement age for both public and private sectors to 58 years old.

People who work after their retirement at 55 will have to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund.
However, they will only have to contribute half of the 11 per cent required of regular members.
Similarly, their employers' contribution will only be six per cent, which is half of the amount that is paid into the accounts of regular staff. Sources said this scheme would go into effect from Feb 1.
"If the employee contributes more, he will have more savings. We also welcome higher contributions from the employer as this will benefit the employee in his old age," the source said.
This is one of the schemes that EPF is introducing to ensure that its 11.4 million members have enough money to live on during their retirement.

Four Temiar are suing the Kelantan Government for demolishing their village church which they claimed was sited on ancestral land, a lawyer and activists said.
Lawyer N. Subramaniyan said authorities tore down the church in June last year, shortly after it was built by members of the tribe in their remote jungle village.
The village headman and three others challenged the state's PAS government in court, seeking a declaration that the land belonged to them and the demolishment was unlawful, he said.

The High Court fixed Jan 29 to hear an application by the Evangelical Church of Borneo (Sidang Injil Borneo) for leave to sue the government over the seizure of religious books.

It deemed the books offensive because they contained four words used in Islam: "Allah", "Baitullah", "Solat" and "Kaabah".
The Kota Kinabalu-based church is seeking 16 declarations, including the right to use the word "Allah" in its congregation as well as in the translated Bible and that the action by the government to ban the usage of the four words was unconstitutional

In Acheh, aid and subsidy create a post Tsunami “money for nothing, food for free” generation.

Rusydi Syahra, a researcher from the Center for Society and Cultural Studies at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), said the tremendous tsunami aid given to Acehnese had "wiped out" the community's sense of independence.
"People have been continuously dependent on disaster aid and have lost their ability to stand on their own feet," Rusydi said. He said various free support in the way of housing, clean water and health services, had unintentionally spoiled local people at all levels of society.
"One clear indication here has been a growing conviction among the survivors that they are entitled to those amenities indefinitely," Rusydi said. "Many Acehnese youth would rather be jobless than work with a limited salary, even though the numbers are reasonable for their level of education,"
Rusydi said. "How will these people who are too dependent on aid money survive when the money is no longer available?"

"The giant rat is about five times the size of a typical city rat," said Kristofer Helgen, a scientist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. "With no fear of humans, it apparently came into the camp several times during the trip."

Zi On was 25 when he was swept away.
The comments that I have read tell of a man whose life impacted lives.
It tells of a man who exuded life to others and brought sadness and tears when he voluntarily walked away from life's stage.
It tells of a man whose humour dwells even after laughter faded.
It tells of a soul whose passion was to others first and to self last.

So what can you say about a twenty-five-year-old man who died? That he was beautiful. And brilliant. That he loved Mozart and Bach. And Spurs. And most of all, his God.

I am sure he would love to have you know his God.

Tomorrow will be the 7^th day when Zi On was swept out from the beach of Moreton Island.
In our walk along life’s journey, there are people who need to be constantly encouraged.
And there are people who encourage constantly.
But there are the very far and very few who in the face of their own heart wrenching adversity continue to encourage you.
I received this SMS this afternoon afternoon.

Cho Tan’s sister who sent the SMS to me remarked, “That is so like Cho Tan, she encourages even in the face of her own adversity”.
Zi On was such a man following the very footsteps of his parents.

AN UNSUNG MALAYSIAN HERO HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM OUR MIDST.

Yesterday was the 5th day when Zi On went missing while saving the life of a complete stranger. The air and sea search for him will shift from saving his life to the recovery of his body as the search moves to the deeper water.
While the world bustle on an unsung Malaysian hero (largely ignored by our Malaysian press) has been taken from our midst.

THE family of a Malaysian-born man missing off Moreton Island yesterday spoke of their pride in their son's heroic final actions as hopes of finding him alive all but evaporated.
Zion Kerk, 25, was last seen assisting a young Korean woman in Honeymoon Bay on the northern tip of the island at 3.40pm on Wednesday.
Police described how he threw the woman on to rocks, possibly saving her life before he was swept away by a wave.
Brother Brian Kerk, who flew to Brisbane from Melbourne to be with his grieving parents, said it did not surprise him to hear Zion had put someone else's well-being before his own.
"He was always helping people. He has such a kind nature. It's just like him to do something like this," said Mr Kerk fighting back tears.
"He's not a big guy. He's like a stick and he was not a strong swimmer . . . It's such a shock," he said. "He will always be my older brother."
Mother Chong Cho Tan who flew from Malaysia last night with Zion's father Kerk Choon Keng, said her eldest son was a sergeant in the boys' brigade who kept a "low profile".
"He was a loving son, a good brother. We're a very close family," Mrs Kerk said.
She said Zion had studied commerce and accounting in Canberra before moving to Brisbane to undertake a master's degree in property valuation at the University of Queensland.
"We're hoping for the best but if God has taken him then we have to accept that," Mrs Kerk said.
Mr Kerk said the family had been briefed by the water police and understood the search would soon become a recovery operation for his body.
